What's the difference between paraphrasing and quoting?

Answer

Paraphrasing

  • Completely rewriting information from a source in your own words.
  • You must still use an in-text citation when paraphrasing to give credit to the original source.

Quoting

  • Using information from a source without making any changes.
  • When quoting, include quotation marks around the selected text to show it is a direct quote.
  • Include an in-text citation.
